The role

What you will be doing

End-to-end ownership of complex, high-stakes technical programs at the cutting edge of AI development.

You will join the Microsoft Superintelligence Team as a Technical Program Manager, taking ownership of complex, high-stakes technical programs across the full lifecycle of frontier AI development — working directly alongside some of the world's best AI researchers and engineers.

Your role spans the entire pipeline: from data collection and model training through evaluation and serving. You will coordinate workstreams across offices, teams, and time zones, driving progress relentlessly and removing blockers with urgency and creativity.

This is a 0-to-1 environment. The team is scrappy, innovative, and fast-moving. Candidates who thrive here take initiative, bring strong technical curiosity, and are genuinely excited by the challenge of managing large-scale programs where the stakes are real and the problems are novel.

You will communicate directly with executive leadership, translating program complexity into clear strategy and driving a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Candidate preparation

How to put your best foot forward

Six practical tips to help you go into this process with confidence and genuine readiness.

01
Know the mission, not just the job spec
Read about Microsoft AI's Humanist Superintelligence mission before your first call. Interviewers want to feel your genuine interest in what this team is trying to achieve — not just program management in general. Explore microsoft.ai and be ready to talk about why this specific team matters to you.
02
Prepare strong examples of 0-to-1 ownership
This team explicitly values people who thrive in ambiguity and build from scratch. Come prepared with concrete stories of programs you have owned end-to-end where you had to create structure where none existed. Use the STAR framework and lead with measurable impact.
03
Demonstrate technical fluency, not just process fluency
This is not a role for traditional PMs who stay surface-level on technical matters. Be comfortable discussing AI/ML workflows, training pipelines, and evaluation approaches. You do not need to be an engineer, but you need to earn the respect of the engineers you will work alongside.
04
Prepare for Microsoft's leadership principles
Microsoft uses a growth mindset framework throughout its interview loops. You will be assessed on respect, integrity, accountability, and your ability to empower others. Think about moments where you modelled these behaviours under pressure — and be honest rather than rehearsed.
05
Think about scale and global coordination
Be ready to talk about how you manage programs that span multiple offices, teams, and time zones. What systems do you use? How do you maintain alignment without bureaucracy? How do you balance speed with rigour? The team works globally and this will come up.
06
Ask questions that show you have done your homework
Strong candidates ask strong questions. Consider asking about the current stage of their foundation model work, how the TPM role interfaces with research versus engineering, what success looks like in the first 90 days, and where the biggest blockers to progress currently sit.
